Spot robot

At the same time, it became known from several sources that a group of scientists from the University of Bristol visited the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on October 22. The purpose of the visit is to test robots in the exclusion zone. One of them is the well-known robot dog Spot from Boston Dynamics.

Spot is a flexible, highly mobile robot that is able to move quickly through the terrain and perform multiple tasks at the same time , such as inspection and data collection. In the area of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, he surveyed the surrounding area, as well as an insulating arch structure (New Safe Confinement), specially designed to prevent the release of radioactive contamination.

During the experiment, the Bristol group used UAVs, ground-based robotic systems and scanners to assess the distribution of radioactive materials in the exclusion zone. In particular, radiometric and geophysical work was carried out on the territory of two sectors of the temporary placement of radioactive waste "Krasny Les" and on the territories of the disposal facilities for radioactive waste "Podlesny" and "Buryakovka".
