US Army prepares to adopt RCV robotic tanks

In the near future, the US Army plans to deploy entire units of semi-autonomous robotic tanks armed with machine guns, missiles and other modern weapons.

According to Breaking Defense (BD), two classes of these robotic combat vehicles (RCVs) are already under development and a third is on the way. During a conference last week, Army Command spokesman Major Corey Wallace said they would be used on future battlefields in both conventional and electronic warfare.

The US Army already produces light, medium and heavy RCV vehicles - light reconnaissance vehicles, heavily armed mini-tanks and powerful artillery vehicles. However, as BD explains, the control of the robots and the right to open fire remain with the person: one operator will act as a driver, and the other will destroy the enemy using remote control systems.

In addition to these "familiar" features, the Army wants RCVs to fight drone flocks. Since the anti-drone laser is too heavy for a small robotic tank, it is supposed to destroy the drones by jamming the control channels, which will make them useless.
